OBITUARY
Hugh F (Bud) Conlon
Army
March 29, 1962 - June 3, 2025Hugh (Bud) Conlon, born March 29, 1962 passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at the age of 63 surrounded by his loving wife of 39 years, Sherrie, and his loving family.
A native of Augusta, Georgia, Hugh Francis Conlon IV, lived a life defined by service, devotion, and quiet strength.
In 1987, Bud proudly enlisted in the United States Army as a combat medic. Earning his parachutist badge, he served with distinction in the 82nd Airborne Division, deploying to Honduras, Panama, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq—including service in Operation Desert Storm. Much of his military career was spent stationed at Fort Bragg, where his dedication and courage earned the respect of all who served alongside him. He retired from active duty in 2007 as a Sergeant First Class.
Even in retirement, Bud continued to serve his fellow soldiers—this time as a representative for the Wounded Warrior Project, advocating for veterans with the same commitment and compassion that marked his military career.
Bud was also a devoted son and a loyal, loving brother. Above all, he was a loving husband, a proud father, and an adoring grandfather, known affectionately as “Granddaddy” by his grandchildren. His life was a testament to honor, family, and faithful service.
In addition to his wife, Bud is survived by daughter: Laura Rodriguez (Jonathan); son: Hugh “Bud” Conlon, V; grandchildren: Mackenzie and Noah; father: Hugh “Sonny” Conlon, III; sisters: Cheryl Simmons (Melissa) and Tracy Conlon; and other loving family members. He was preceded in death by his mother: Barbara Mitchell Conlon.
A memorial service will be held, Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors with Fr. Mark Ross officiating. Full military honors will be rendered.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907 (706) 364-8484. www.thomaspoteet.com
